Bamboo carpets, a sustainable solution
Bamboo as a sustainable material is a solution for flooring that recently is attracting the attention of industry. Bamboo as a hard surface is available from 90s century, while the use of bamboo as a multipurpose and versatile material goes back centuries. Nowadays due to the benefits of bamboo as a material that is skin-friendly, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and hypoallergenic, it is also used in fashion industry.
The entrance of bamboo to the carpet industry goes back to almost 10 years ago where the carpet weavers in India started to produce bamboo carpets. Bamboo is central to the economy in that zone and also south of China, therefore, it is a common material for the artisans to work with. The fibers used for these carpets are soft and silky which gives a smooth texture to the carpet. The durable and uniquely attractive bamboo carpets are considered as an alternative to the traditional rugs for those who respect sustainability and want to have a totally vegetal carpet rather than synthetic one.
To achieve the soft and smooth texture of the bamboo fiber, there are many steps in the processing of the raw material. During the harvest, a sharp blade similar to a sickle is used on the stalk to chip away the end of the bamboo until it falls down. Then the bamboo is cut to proper dimensions. From there, the stalks are cut vertically with a sharp blade similar to an apple slicer. A machine sides down these pieces before they run through a steam machine that makes them more pliable and easier to manipulate.
The bamboo carpets have excellent quality and durability, therefore, they are suitable for under furniture or near to the fireplace. These carpets are known to tolerate several passages without any extra care and attention. Apart from this, Bamboo rugs are soft in touch with natural fibers, thus, none of the health issues are associated with using a bamboo carpet.
Although bamboo rugs are less prone to stain, they become dirty, therefore, taking care of a bamboo carpet in important as any other carpet. It is advisable to not keep the bamboo rugs near to the entrance or toilet where they are more prone to get dirty. The sunlight might make the bamboo carpet less shiny, therefore, it is better to not use them under direct sunshine.
In conclusion, if you want to add a unique sustainable material to the interior, bamboo carpets are considered as an excellent choice. Bamboo carpets are cheaper than usual rugs but they give a friendly atmosphere to the environment and they have a high-class look, therefore they are made with modern designs that are in great demand in environments with minimal furnishings.
