TABRIZ RUG: Given the rich history of the city of Tabriz, the origins of carpet weaving here date back to before the Safavid Empire. During this era, the rug evolved from a simple rural craft into a luxury masterpiece; thanks to the economic boom of the period, international merchants came to regard these rugs as true icons of the Persian Empire. Tabriz rugs were prized as art pieces for museums and discerning collectors, reflecting the immense demand of the time.

Tabriz offers a wide variety of patterns, from classic medallion and Herati/Mahi designs to pictorial and even 3D rugs. Many master knotters have recently begun producing fine Tabriz rugs with silk wefts. These patterns usually feature central medallions, with knot density ranging from 24 raj (knots per 7 cm) up to 110 raj. The region produces several distinct varieties, the most renowned being Tabriz, Heris, Lachak-turanj, Afshan, Dord Fasil, and Sardorud.
