GHOM SILK CARPET: The province of Qom is located south of Tehran (capital) and is considered an important province connecting the south of Iran to the center and north. Among the people living in the towns and villages of this province are farmers and ranchers; in addition to them, there are also many artisans. Qom carpets are made entirely of silk with a higher density of knots, which are known as “silk flowers,” are the output of this change. These Qom rugs are made with silk warp, weft and pile and are so thin that among merchants they are known as “pocket rugs,” precisely because they can be folded and shrunk down to a small size making transportation very easy. The design of Qom carpets is derived from traditional Persian motifs such as medallions and floral patterns. Hunting scenes that are common in Isfahan carpets are also used in Qom carpets, which are made of silk, to give a more precise and elegant style to this pattern.
