NAIN 9LA carpet: In Iran, about 200 kilometers east of Isfahan, near the western border of the great Dasht-e-Kavir desert, is the picturesque city of Nain. The rugs from this city have an excellent reputation and are very popular. Nain carpets are the most beautiful and most famous Persian carpets in the world. The material of the Nain rugs, as well as the workmanship, is of the highest class and the density of the knots is high; often more than one million knots per square meter.

The most common motif is a central medallion surrounded by individual arabesque designs. In some examples the Nain carpet decorated with a floral motif without a medallion. The naming system of Nain carpets depends on the number of “La”. “La” is the number of twisted threads in a warp thread which shows how fine the rug design is. Nain rugs are classified into 4 “la”, 6 “la” and 9 “la”. The Nain carpet with 4 “la” has a finer design than the 6 “la” and 9 “la”. The carpet 4 “la” Nain is an expensive carpet which, due to its high quality, is rare to find.
